Job Description:
(RN) Registered Nurse - FT - Night - NICU 3POSITION SUMMARY:
Responsible for the delivery of patient care through the nursing
process of assessment, diagnosing, planning, implementation, and
evaluation. Responsible for directing and coordinating all nursing
care for departmental specific patients based on established
clinical nursing practice standards. Collaborates with other
professional disciplines to ensure effective and efficient patient
care delivery and the achievement of desired patient outcomes.
Supports the organization vision and mission. Utilizes knowledge of
patient's age and cultural diversity into the provision of patient
care. Contributes to the provision of quality nursing care through
performance improvement techniques that demonstrate positive
outcomes in patient care.
POSITION EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS:
* Graduate of accredited school of nursing required (BSN
preferred)
* Current registered nurse's license in the State of Texas
* Current BLS certification
* Current NRP certification or obtain within 6 months of hire
* STABLE certification is optional but encouraged
* Willingness to be crossed trained to other areas.
* Willingness to be trained for charge nurse
* Willingness to become a preceptor after two years of nursing
experience
* Hospital experience preferred
JOB KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE:
Ability to practice nursing as described by the following
definition: "The diagnosis and treatment of human responses to
actual or potential health alternations." Ability to utilize the
best nursing process in the provision of nursing care including but
not limited to administering treatments and medications,
interpreting diagnostic tests, formulating a plan of care,
collaborating with other health care providers and providing
education to patients and/or significant others. The successful
candidate will be required to pass competencies for this
position.
* Experience: 6 months -1 year continuous hospital experience as a
RN in newborn nursery, pediatrics, neonatal surgical unit or
similar preferred
* Essential Technical/Motor skills: Able to adjust and/or
troubleshoot monitoring equipment and computer equipment.
* Must be able to interact and communicate with all levels of
staff, physicians, patients and families in an effective manner.

* Must be sensitive to cultural issues.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Promotes the facility mission, vision and values by effectively
communicating them to others. Considers mission, vision and values
in developing services, standards and practice
* Conducts an individualized patient assessment, prioritizing the
data collection based on the neonatal patient's immediate condition
or needs within timeframe specified by client facility's policies,
procedures or protocols.
* Conducts ongoing assessments as determined by the neonatal
patient's condition and/or the client facility's policies,
procedures or protocols and reprioritizes care accordingly.
* Develops plan of care that is individualized for the neonatal
patient reflecting collaboration with other members of the health
care team.
* Performs appropriate treatments as ordered by physician in an
accurate and timely manner
* Performs therapeutic nursing interventions as established by
individualized plan of care for the neonatal patient and his/her
family
* Provides individualized patient/family education customized to
the neonatal patient and his/her family.
* Documents patient assessment findings, physical/psychosocial
responses to nursing intervention and progress towards problem
resolution
* Initiates emergency resuscitative measures according to neonatal
resuscitation protocols
* Maintains confidentiality in matters related to patient, family
and client facility staff
* Provides care in a non-judgmental, non-discriminatory manner that
is sensitive to the neonatal patient's and family's diversity,
preserving their autonomy, dignity and rights.
* Reports patient condition to appropriate personnel during each
shift
* Maintains current competency in neonatal nursing
