Position at DHR Health
POSITION SUMMARY:
Work as an extension of the DHR Health Level I Trauma Center trauma
surgeons, the allied health practitioner will be involved in every
aspect of care including inpatient and ICU rounding, responding to
trauma activations, as well as post-discharge outpatient clinic.
The allied health practitioner will utilize advanced knowledge and
skill to identify abnormal conditions, diagnose health problems,
develop and implement treatment plans, evaluate patient outcomes,
and collaborate with or refer to a physician in the medical
practice for further care management. Responsibilities include
clinical rounding on trauma patients, identifying any performance
improvement opportunities, and assisting with guideline
development.
POSITION EDUCATION/ QUALIFICATIONS - :
- For Physician Assistant Candidates:
- Graduate from an Accredited Program
- Completion of an Accreditation Review Commission on Education
for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) approved program, (Prior to
January 2001)-Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health
Education Programs
- Current Certification by the National Commission on
certification of Physician Assistants
- For Nurse Practitioner Candidates: -
- Graduate from an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program approved
by the State of Texas, DNP preferred.
--Current state of Texas license to practice professional nursing;
certification by the American Nurse Credentialing Center or
National Certification Center in area of specialty, or the American
Association of - Nurse Practitioners.
-Both Allied Health Practitioner Candidates:
- Current CPR Certification
- Current PALS within 6 months of hire
- Current ACLS within 6 months of hire
- Current ATLS within 6 months of hire
- Trauma Outcomes Performance Improvement Course (TOPIC) within 1
year of hire.
- Current state licensure or eligibility for the state of Texas
physician assistant.
- Computer skills required with knowledge of Microsoft Office
suite. -
- Good written and verbal communication skills required.
- Excellent customer service skills are required.
- Minimal evening or weekend work
- Bilingual - English/Spanish preferred

JOB KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE - :
- Emergency Medicine, Critical Care, or Trauma experience
preferred
- Understand concepts of quality and performance improvement
preferred
- Requires ability to work independently and within groups
- Knowledge of State, Federal, JCAHO regulations and Trauma
designation criteria.
- Computer skills required with knowledge of Microsoft Office
suite
- Continuing education in trauma related/clinical care
topics
- Good written and verbal communications skills required

POSITION RESPONSIBILITES:
- Promotes the facility mission, vision and values by effectively
communicating them to others. Considers mission, vision and values
in developing services, standards and practices.
- Represents DHR Health Trauma Services Department favorably to
the community
- Consults with the Trauma Medical Director and Trauma Program
Director to enhance overall program direction.
- Maintains all patient, staff, and DHR information and documents
in compliance with hospital policies regarding patient
confidentiality and privacy.
- Coordinates and implements aspects of trauma care of the
injured and acute care surgery patients
- Provides effective health care in maintaining collaborative and
consultative relationship with all members of the interdisciplinary
care team while providing excellent and timely care to the patients
admitted to the Trauma Center
- Participates in daily rounding and collaborates with attending
surgeon and residents in order to adjust plans of care
- Assists with Trauma, Burn, and General Surgery operating
procedures as needed.
- Collaborates with the nursing staff and assists by offering
continued education of daily care, risk potential, and
opportunities for improvement.
- Assists with audit reviews of trauma charts and identifies
PI/QI opportunities.
- Recognizes care concerns and assists in the development of
corrective action measures, and protocol development to improve
trauma care.
- Monitors and trends PI indicators as outlined by the American
College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma (ACS-COT), Texas DSHS, and
hospital criteria
- Assists with process of real time chart reviews for Trauma
Review committee and other meetings
- Ensures on-going education to maintain current knowledge on
ACS-COT, Texas DSHS standards and best practices.
- Participates in injury prevention, research, and trauma related
projects.
- Other duties as assigned.
