Engineering (ECE) Department at The University of Texas Rio Grande
Valley (UTRGV) invites applications for an Assistant Professor
(tenure-track) position in the Computer Engineering program to
begin in Fall 2021. This position with the ECE Department will be
based on the Brownsville campus.The ECE Department has twenty-three
faculty members and offers a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer
Engineering and a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical
Engineering. The department also offers a program of graduate study
leading to the Master of Science in Electrical Engineering degree.
The department serves more than 900 students including more than
800 undergraduate students. It is expected that doctoral programs
will be developed, which should substantially expand faculty lines
and student enrollment in the coming years. For more information

QualificationsCandidates at the Assistant Professor level
(tenure-track) will be considered based on demonstrated potential
to enhance the teaching, service, and research capabilities of the
Computer Engineering program. Applicants must have demonstrated
evidence of leadership skill in interdisciplinary research and
collaboration along with an outstanding research program, including
high-profile publications and a high potential to successfully
obtain extramural funding.Prospective candidates in all computer
engineering areas are strongly encouraged to apply. We are
especially interested in candidates with a concentration in
computer architecture, operating systems, and software engineering.
Applicants must have an earned doctorate degree in Computer
Engineering or a closely related field from an accredited
university (at least conferred before the start date).Discipline
Specific Required QualificationsThe candidates should be able to
teach undergraduate / graduate core courses, develop laboratories,
initiate externally funded research, and have publications of
research results in archival journals and/or conference
proceedings. The candidates must be willing to offer or teach
courses in algorithms and data structures, systems programming,
software engineering, and operating systems. UTRGV faculty will be
expected to demonstrate a strong commitment to student success and
to advancing the university, college, and program missions. Faculty

Work is performed primarily in a general office environment. This
position is security sensitive and thereby subject to the
provisions of the Texas Education Code --51.215. The retirement
plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS),
subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at
least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the
Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the
position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in
